Charles Korgoren Kerich is a man of many talents as he has held four cabinet positions in Nairobi County Government in under one year since his first appointment in November 2017.
The former Editor-in-Chief at Radio Africa Group was first shortlisted to head the department of ICT and E-Government, for which he was vetted and approved.
In February 2018, he was moved to the Lands docket to take over from Peter Njuguna in a reshuffle by Governor Mike Sonko.
When he fired Danvas Makori in April 2018, Sonko asked Kerich to take over duties in the Finance and Economic Planning department with immediate effect.
Among his first duties was to prepare the County Government budget.
Recently after uncovering the unfortunate disposal of the bodies of 11 dead babies at Pumwani Hospital, Sonko went on to suspend Health Executive Vesca Kangogo.
Again the Governor’s ‘Mr fix it’ was asked to step up as the new Health Executive.
Political analyst and lecturer at the University of Nairobi, Professor Herman Manyora explains that Charles' background as a journalist gives him an edge over his colleagues as an expert in conflict and crisis management.
"Either he is so competent that whenever there is a need, he is called upon to act or he could also be the most loyal and trusted,” he commented.
“He is a sharp guy and when you listen to him you get that impression. I believe Kerich also understands how Governor Sonko thinks,” revealed Peter Imwatok, the Nairobi County Assembly Minority Whip.
In August 2017, Kerich – by then still at Radio Africa Group, was appointed Chairman of the Media Council of Kenya by ICT Cabinet Secretary Joe Mucheru.
