ODM Party Slots Crucial Meeting as Members Defy

The Orange Democratic Movement will be back at Orange House on Tuesday for a crucial meeting in the wake of growing defiance among its members.

Party leader Raila Odinga, his deputies Hassan Joho and Governor Oparanya are among the top party leaders expected to lead deliberations during the central committee meeting.

Sources within the party confirmed that the meeting had been planned prior to last week's parliamentary group sitting that saw the party resolve to bak president Uhuru's recommendations for the Finance Bill 2018.

According to the party Secretary General Edwin Sifuna, the party's money matters will be the meeting's top agenda.

Sifuna dismissed speculations that the meeting could partly allow the leadership iron out differences emerging from the controversial poll in parliament on the 8% VAT on petroleum products.

"We are supposed to scrutinize the accounts presented by the finance team and to approve the reports for publication later on after the meeting. This is the only agenda for the meeting," confirmed Sifuna.

ODM party Elections Director Junet Mohammed, Senate Minority Leader James Orengo and Homa Bay Woman Rep Gladys Wanga are expected to be part of the Tuesday meeting.

The meeting comes at a time the ODM Chairman John Mbadi is facing impeachment threats from some of the party members of parliament.

Mbadi has stood his ground for having stood by the party position on the controversial Finance Bill, daring the MPs to proceed with the alleged plan to push for his removal.

"I don’t fear punishment from any quarters but Kenya had to restructure its ways of getting funds for local expenditure and pay debts

"I did not just act in the interest of my party boss Raila Odinga but I saw it wise that we should sacrifice to reduce the debts," stated the Minority leader during a fundraiser at Ndhiwa Catholic Church during the weekend.

Lawmakers that were opposed to the president's memoranda labeled Mbadi a traitor and made demands that he should quit the Minority Leadership position.
