Governor Okoth Obado's Bail Ruling to Be Made on Thursday

Migori Governor Okoth Obado will spend two more nights at the Industrial Area Remand Prison, pending the determination of his bail application.

Judge Jessie Lessit maintained she would deliver her ruling on Thursday, September 27 at 2 pm.

On Tuesday, the Public Prosecutor opposed a bail application by Obado on grounds that the county boss, who was being tried for murder, could interfere with witnesses.

In an affidavit by detective Clement Mwangi attached to the homicide section of the DCI, he stated that there was a high likelihood of Obado interfering and intimidating key witnesses in the murder trial.

Mwangi maintained that detectives were still compiling further information including an impending interrogation of some county staff, and Obado’s family members.

“The release of the accused person on bail pending hearing and determination of the trail is not absolute and is at the discretion of the court,” Mwangi pleaded.

He also indicated in his affidavit that Sharon’s family is under threat and intimidation.

The sleuth told the court the threats on the family of the slain student were believed to be originating from Obado.

According to the prosecution, Obado’s release could pose extreme danger to witnesses in the matter and the society at large.

Mwangi further revealed that detectives were seeking hit men who were still at large.

He told the court there was evidence linking the governor and his two co-accused to the commission of the murder.

“Investigations reveal that the State has a very strong case on the accused and his accomplices,” the prosecution told the court.
