The Kenya Meteorological Department on Tuesday issued a heavy rain advisory with the downpour expected from Wednesday.

According to the alert from the weatherman, the coastal region will on Wednesday receive heavy rainfall of beyond 30mm in 24 hours which will also be accompanied by strong winds and large waves.

On Thursday, the rainfall is expected to intensify to 50mm within a span of 24 hours decreasing again on Friday to 30mm.

As such, the weatherman advised those residing in Kwale, Mombasa, Kilifi, Taita Taveta, Lamu and Tana River to be on the lookout for flash floods.

Afternoon showers expected over few places within the Lake Victoria Basin, the Highlands West of the Rift Valley, the Central and South Rift Valley, the Central Highlands and the North Eastern between September 25 and October 1, 2018.

The Central Highlands (including Nairobi area) are likely to experience early morning cloudiness that will give way to sunny intervals. Afternoon showers are expected over a few places.

"People should avoid driving, wading or walking through any fast-moving waters," the Meteorological Department warned.

The Climate outlook for the October-November-December (OND) 2018 "Short Rains" season indicates that much of the country is likely to experience above average rainfall.

The distribution of the rainfall in time and space is expected to be good over most places especially during the peak month of November.

The long-term forecast also indicated that the onset of the OND 2018 seasonal rainfall is expected to be timely over most of the country.
