There was drama at County Assembly chambers after Nominated MCA Mary Ariviza who had been proposed for the Acting Speaker position in absentia, appeared and begun shouting and screaming.
The MCA was forcefully removed from the chambers by the sergeant at arms who dragged her from the County Assembly chambers while shouting she was pro ousted Speaker Beatrice Elachi.
Reports indicated that the Nominated MCA had been proposed before her name was withdrawn and the latter declined.
In the video, Ariviza screamed at the sergeant at arms to stop dragging her lest they break her leg as she was using crutches.
Amidst the chaos, the Nairobi County Assembly ended up electing Majority Chief Whip Chege Mwaura as the acting Speaker following the impeachment of Beatrice Elachi.
In his acceptance speech, Mwaura stated: “The office of the Speaker shall serve in a very open and friendly manner and on an open-door policy.”
He added: “I also wish to request for your support because this is a position that we must all agree that we want to take Nairobi forward and I think everyone is open to the task and willing to take us in that direction.”
This was not the first time that drama had erupted at City Hall since MCAs impeached Elachi.
On September 10, there was chaos at County Hall offices after the legislators stormed the embattled Speaker Elachi’s office demanding her ouster.
Majority Leader Abdi Guyo was quoted stating: “On Thursday (September 6), Members of County Assembly impeached Madam Speaker with six counts of allegations after the mover of the motion convinced the members. You cannot stay in a place where 98% of the people do not have confidence in you.”
