EACC Uses Treated Bank Notes to Catch Corrupt Lands Officials in Kisii

Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) detectives on Wednesday nabbed six lands registry officials in Kisii County after tracing bank notes that were used as a bribe.

The six included Kisii Lands Registrar Steve Mokaya, four officers and a lands broker who is suspected to have been working together with the lands officials to fleece members of the public who wanted searches done.

EACC South Nyanza Regional Manager David Kang’ara who led the operation explained that they had investigated the matter for over three months.

The EACC boss added that they had received a number of complaints from members of the public who had suffered in the hands of the rogue officials.

"We received allegations three months ago that the lands registrar in collusion with brokers and ghost workers is embezzling government revenue by having an irregular system of processing land documents.

"We have also recovered treated money which we had circulated to nab the suspects," Kang'ara relayed.

The EACC official further conveyed that the suspects would be arraigned in court after processing by the Office of the Director of Public Prosecution (ODPP).

Kang'ara conveyed that his team would continue with similar investigations to reduce instances of corruption in public office.

He invited members of the public to join in the fight against corruption by reporting incidences as they happen.

The EACC has been vigilant on corruption cases involving high profile individuals including West Pokot Governor John Lonyangapuo and former Governor Evans Kidero.
