Reports have emerged on how Sharon Belyne Otieno's mother Melida Auma and her family were sneaked out of court after a security threat.
On Wednesday, the family had gone to the Milimani Law Courts for the hearing of a case against the suspected killers of the Rongo University student.
However, things turned murky when demonstrators gathered outside the court premises demanding the release of Migori Governor Zachary Okoth Obado who was a lover to the deceased.
The protesters, some of them women, were carrying placards with obscene comments about the late Sharon who was killed through stabbing.
The situation outside the Court forced Sharon's family to remain inside the court for more than an hour after the judge had left.
When the volatile situation persisted, the family was silently escorted by police officers through the door used by judges.
This saw them successfully avoid the unruly crowd that had gathered at the main gate.
Sharon's family, led by her father Douglas Otieno, noted that the insults directed at their slain daughter were uncalled for even as the governor is assumed innocent until proven guilty.
The parents lamented on how they were mocked and taunted by the governor's supporters who had also previously held demonstrations in Migori town.
Some media reports alleged that nearly 100 demonstrators had been paid and ferried from Migori to stage riots during the hearing.
Obado was remanded at Industrial Area Prison after pleading not guilty to charges of aiding, abetting and financing the murder of a 7-month pregnant Sharon.
