7 NLC Officials to Testify Against Mohammed Swazuri in Fraud Case

Seven officials from the National Land Commission (NLC) will appear before court to testify against Mohammed Swazuri over fraudulent accusations.

This was mentioned on Monday as part of a response to a petition he had filed asking to be reinstated while awaiting the hearing of the graft case labelled against him and 12 others.

Swazuri, through his lawyer, stated, “EACC has imprisoned my client, he cannot go to his offices and serve Kenyans.”

The magistrate denied hearing the case on the grounds that the High Court asked for its file and the one in their possession was only a skeleton.

Swazuri and the co-accused are now out on bond awaiting the determination of a fraud case in which they are accused of irregularly awarding compensation to a land meant for Standard Gauge Railway construction

The suit further showed that the irregularity cost Kenya Railways Authority more than Ksh221 million.

Senior Principal Magistrate Lawrence Mugambi approved for four of the accused, who were facing seven counts of corruption, to be released on Ksh3.5 million bond each.

They include the former NLC Chairman, Ms Salome Munubi, Mr David Some and Ms Esther Some.

The others were released on Ksh1.5 million cash bail for they are facing two counts of corruption.

They all denied the charges accusing them of acquiring State corporation land meant to host SGR and later reselling it to the government.
