Shirlene Nafula and Evans Wadongo Win Tickets for Inaugural US Flight

State House Spokesperson Kanze Dena on Friday announced the winners of tickets for the inaugural Kenya Airways New York flight.

Two outstanding entrepreneurs, Shirlene Nafula and Evans Wadongo were handed tickets at State House on Friday morning.

They were selected for their creativity and innovativeness in the areas of biotechnology and solar energy.

The two lucky Kenyans will be part of the team that will travel to New York during the official launch on October 28.

32-year-old Wadongo grew up in a rural village in western Kenya before studying Electronic and Computer Engineering at Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology.

At the young age of 19, he made the first-ever African designed solar lamp from recycled materials, dubbed MwangaBora

26-year-old Ms Nafula is the founder of Crystal River Products, a manufacturer of quality bio-based beauty and skincare products, for personal, household and corporate use.

In 2018, she caught the attention of Darshan Chandaria who pledged for a share of her business during a TV show, KCB Lion's Den, that promotes entrepreneurship.

An excited Shirlene expressed her joy to Kenyans.co.ke by stating, "I am truly humbled to be selected. It is a real surprise. I am grateful to the President, Statehouse, and Kenya Airways."

"I will represent Kenya indeed as the pride Africa on matters tourism, trade and culture," she added.
