NGO Wants Governor Mike Sonko Grilled Over Monica Kimani’s Murder

A Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) is now calling for the grilling of Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko over the murder of Monica Kimani.

According to court documents, the organisation, Empowering Africa, stated that the investigations should have also questioned the people who were with Jacque Maribe on the night of the murder among them Governor Sonko.

Empowering Africa Chairman Josiah Murigu claimed that pictures of the two surfaced online on the fateful night after an interview on Citizen TV.

The papers filed in the High Court also accused the prosecution of slacking claiming that they failed to record Jowie’s statement 25 days after the arrest.

The affidavit further accused the prosecution of incompetence for failing to collect CCTV footage of the joints Maribe appeared during the night of the murder.

"Since the prosecution cites a complicated investigation as a reason for delay, then why have they not dispensed the simple task like summoning and recording statements from the willing persons that were in the company of the 2nd accused person on the night of the murder," stated the affidavit as reported by The Star.

The murder suspects' field on Friday was expanded after a Recce Squad officer, Jennings Orlando, was taken to custody to allow for a seven day investigations period.

Orlando told the police that Jowie visited the deceased’s house on the day of the murder and that he did not go with him.

The two suspects, Jowie and Jacque, are still in custody awaiting the hearing of their bail application slated for this Wednesday. They were charged with murder but pleaded not guilty.

Jacque cited her young son, previous cooperation with the authorities on the case and lack of knowledge of the deceased’s demise as her strongest reasons to get the bail.
