Fred Ngatia Dismisses Claims of Leading Okoth Obado's Defense Team

Prominent Lawyer Fred Ngatia on Monday dismissed claims that he had been roped in to lead the defense team in Migori Governor Okoth Obado's case.

Earlier in the day, social media was awash with claims that Obado had dropped his lead lawyer Cliff Ombetta, alleging that the embattled County boss had lost confidence in the criminal lawyer.

According to Ngatia, the claims were fabrications and that he is not aware of such plans adding that he could not give further comments on the matter.

When contacted by Kenyans.co.ke, Ngatia stated that the governor's lawyers are known. He, however, did not give a prominent dismissal to the reports.

"No, I am not aware of such plans. I think everyone by now knows who the lawyers in that case are," he responded briefly before proceeding to his errands.

Lawyer Ombetta, who has been handling the matter from the onset, could not comment on the matter as he did not respond to our messages and calls.

The claims emerge at a time the lawyers are expected to appear with the Governor before Justice Jessie Lessit on Wednesday as they anticipate bail from the court.

Justice Lessit, who was handling two prominent criminal cases, recused herself from that involving journalist Jacque Maribe and Joe Irungu early last week.

Maribe and Irungu are suspects in Monica Kimani's murder case and are also expected in court on Wednesday awaiting the determination of their bail application.
