KFCB Directors Renew Ezekiel Mutua's Term

Kenya Film and Classification Board (KFCB) Directors have renewed Dr Ezekiel Mutua’s term as its Chief Executive Officers for three more years.

Mutua was pleased to announce the board’s decision during a radio interview with Hot 96's presenter Jeff Koinange that was about his first term.

He identified his achievements to be the reason behind the move that is likely to evoke emotions amongst film industry players.

“When I was first appointed, the board gave me two mandates. One, raise the profile of the board. I have done that by over 99%," he stated.

The self-proclaimed moral police added that very few people knew about KFCB, let alone pronounce it properly in full, up until his appointment.

Mutua, whose first term was due to end in November, explained that he was able to set up structures that prevent other government agencies from contradicting the board’s mandate.

The second obligation was to raise KFCB’s revenue, which he claimed to have done five times over.

In his second term, Mutua promised to work on strategic connections to promote the growth of the industry.

His first term was marked by a host of regulations and bans that received heavy criticism by industry stakeholders.

Most recently, Mutua made international headlines banning lesbian movie 'Rafiki' directed by Wanuri Kahiu.
