Governor Okoth Obado Holds First Address After Release From Remand Prison

Migori Governor Okoth Obado, for the first time since his arrest, issued a statement from his Lavington home in Nairobi.

Obado thanked the High Court for hearing his application and granting him bail.

The Migori Governor stated, "This has given me an opportunity to effectively work for the people of Migori as their governor. I promise to respect the court and abide by the conditions it set."

He further urged leaders, regardless of their political or ethnic affiliations, to embrace peace and unity in order to help steer forward the development agenda of Migori county.

Obado thanked Migori residents, MCAs, county staff, his supporters, legal team, friends and his family for standing with him as he battled his murder charge.

The governor was released on a Ksh5 million bail but he cannot access his illustrious home in Rapogi because it is outside the 20-kilometre radius Justice Jessie Lessit directed he should not breach.

Obado was allowed bond as none of the evidence and witnesses has directly linked him to the murder of Rongo University Sharon Otieno.

Another hurdle he will be facing is accessing his county without infringing the court order since nearly all the roads to and from Kisumu airport pass through Homa Bay County.

The only way he can avoid a breach is to fly to his Migori Town rented home in a chopper.

Reports have indicated that his legal team was contemplating to appeal some of the conditions imposed by the court.
