How Uhuru, Raila Can "Drain the Swamp" - Mutahi Ngunyi

Political analyst Mutahi Ngunyi has revealed how President Uhuru Kenyatta and ODM leader Raila Odinga can "drain the swamp" once and for all.

"Draining the swamp" is a phrase that has been used to refer to sorting the social, political, and economic issues that have dogged the country over the years.

Through his show, The 5th Estate, Mutahi indicated that the duo have all that it takes to be the architects of the "third republic".

"You have the opportunity to re-imagine Kenya and the tools to remake Kenya," the political analyst notes.

According to Mutahi, Uhuru and Raila need to be unapologetic, abrasive and unyielding to grant Kenya a new dawn.

"We need unreasonable change to give our politics some kind of sense. I am proposing a joint dictatorship between Uhuru and Raila as the unreasonable path to stability.

Opining that the referendum is the unreasonable path to the stability, Mutahi pointed out Ethiopia and South Africa as the best examples how a parliamentary system would save the country.

Mutahi elaborated that South Africa recently ousted their ceremonial president Jacob Zuma and Ethiopia their Prime Minister and later on their president without destabilizing the country.

The political analyst further stated that developed countries like South Korea, Japan, Russia and China only grew after applying a degree of dictatorship.

"What is the relationship between democracy and poverty. In 1963, South Korea was at par with Kenya, until they abandoned democracy and embraced a dictate.

"The more African countries attempt to be democratic, the more we bleed poverty and bloodshed.

"To birth the third republic in Kenya, you (Uhuru and Raila) must become unreasonable. And the coming referendum is your only opportunity," Mutahi concluded.
