Governor Mike Sonko Pledges Ksh2 Million to National Amputee Team

Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko has pledged to reward the National Amputee Team with Ksh2 million if they win their ongoing World Cup competition in Mexico.

In a post on his Facebook page, the Governor also pledged to reward them with Ksh1 million if they emerged second and Ksh500,000 if they came out third.

On Tuesday at the championship, the group thrashed USA team 2–1 while wearing yellow T-shirts branded "Team Sonko" after it was claimed that they did not have enough funds for sports wear.

In order to attend the competition, Sonko aided in their financial woes by paying for their allowances and availing the gaming kits.

The Amputee Stars are set to face Russia on Thursday on a decisive match for both teams.

"Bravo to the Kenya amputee national football team for beating USA 2-1 in the ongoing amputee World Cup in Mexico," stated Sonko.

The triumph over USA catapulted the team to qualify for the second round of Group F after earlier defeating Liberia 3-0.

The team had previously attended a World Cup Championship in 2014 emerging position 17 out of the 24 countries that participated.

The game is played by seven members on each side who use crutches competing for 50 minutes total time with each half going for 25 minutes.

Sonko, in the past, rewarded the National Football team, Harambee Stars, Ksh3 million after they beat Ethiopia 3-0 at Kasarani.
