Raila Odinga Leaves for UK to Watch Gor Mahia Face Everton

Former Prime Minister Raila Odinga left the country for UK where he will be watching a football match at Goodison Park.

Raila will join other Kenyans in England as they cheer Gor Mahia in the historic friendly match against English Premier League side Everton on Tuesday.

The ODM leader who also doubles up as the Gor Mahia club patron expressed trust and hopes the team will emerge victorious in the clash.

“This is a historic first for Kenyan football, particularly for community clubs which have to make do with very little against great expectations from their fans. I urge our people in the UK, Kenyans and Africans, to come out and give this club the morale boost it needs. Let’s meet in Liverpool,” appealed Mr Odinga.

He asked the Gor Mahia players to consider the match like any other national duty saying the country would benefit from their progress.

"Many benefits may come for many Kenyan soccer players out of this encounter. It is not about the Gor Mahia. It is about the many other football players in Kenya and the nation of Kenya,” held the Former Prime Minister.

Gor players left behind Rwanda captain Jacques Tuyisenge, when departing from the country on November 3, over delays in his passport submission.

According to Gor Mahia CEO Lordvick Aduda, Tuyisenge submitted his travel details late and was expected to join the team on Sunday.

“Tuyisenge submitted his passport late, so we had a problem in acquiring his Visa on time. It is being worked on and we are expecting to have him on board alongside the second batch of the party set to travel on fourth, that is Sunday," stated Aduda.
