CS Mwangi Kiunjuri Threatens to Quit

Agriculture Cabinet Secretary (CS) Festus Mwangi Kiunjuri on Tuesday threatened to quit his docket.

Addressing members of Parliamentary Committee on Agriculture, Kiunjuri indicated that he is prepared to table resignation rather than have his name tarnished.

Noting that critics have kept on attacking his personality, the embattled CS indicated he would resign if the trend persisted in a bid to safeguard his dignity and integrity.

However, he clarified that he will not succumb to any pressure or humiliation to leave office as he was busy serving Kenyans.

Kiunjuri further questioned why he was being castigated yet he had handed over the names of suspected corrupt officials to the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC).

The cabinet secretary also tabled a document from the anti-graft agency listing 62 blacklisted farmers who supplied maize and received over Ksh4 billion.

Kiunjuri appeared before parliament again to respond to various queries including the unending maize crisis.

The CS revealed that 1.2 million bags of maize stored in national cereals and produce board silos was discolored.

Consequently, the Ministry of Agriculture is awaiting cabinet’s approval to dispose the spoilt maize.

The legislators put Kiunjuri to task on how the 1.2million bags got spoilt while the country was in short supply of the commodity.
