President Uhuru Address During The Late Peter Musyoka Mairu's Funeral Service

President Uhuru Kenyatta on Friday shared his fear of missing out on going to heaven disclosing that he was ready to learn the Kamba language if it meant securing a slot there.

Addressing mourners during the burial of Kalonzo Musyoka's father in Tseikuru in Kitui County, the president acknowledged that he had missed the sermon as he was held up in work engagements.

"Sikuskia mahubiri yenu leo, nilishikwa na kazi. Lakini mimi pia ninaamini ya kwamba Mungu anaskia lugha zote. Labda anapenda Kikamba… You know, my bishop here knows… Labda amepatiwa sauti pahali. Kwa hivyo, hata mimi wacha nijifundishe Kikamba kidogo just in case… niweze kupenyea hapo… Wakamba wakipita, nami nipitie hapo.

(I did not hear the sermons today because I came a bit late due to other commitments but I believe that God hears every language. Maybe he loves Kikamba. Even me let me try and learn Kikamba just in case)" he stated on a light note.

His sentiments drew laughs from the mourners who had gathered in the ceremony.

The President reiterated that unity was important because when leaders engaged in fights, it is the common mwananchi who suffer.

"We cannot again allow Kenyans to shed blood due to politics. This is why we are uniting to work together towards development, to the benefit of all Kenyans," he stated.

He added that the focus should be on opening up the country through infrastructure development.

He further took leaders who take advantage of funerals to air dirty laundry terming it as being counterproductive to issues affect the residents.

Kujeni tukae, tuongee alafu tukuje tuambie wananchi hivi ndiyo tutafanaya. Na mimi ofisi yangu sijaifunga, karibuni.

(This issue of crying in front the electorate, you are a leader, leaders talk then go to the people with solutions. Stop using funerals to whine about roads and water, those are things discussed in offices. My office is open, you are welcome)" Uhuru stated.

"That is the only way we will expand our GDP and create jobs for our people, even in the rural areas. We will not develop our country without water, electricity and roads," Uhuru conveyed.
