Obado Recounts His Relationship With The Late Dr. Wahome Gakuru

Migori Governor Okoth Obado on Sunday joined the Deputy President William Ruto in Nyeri where they participated in a marathon in honour of the late Nyeri Governor Wahome Gakuru.

Obado, in his address to the media in Nyeri, disclosed that he had a special attachment with the county.

It was his first public appearance outside Migori County since the day he was set free by the court.

Obado, who has been in high spirits after DP Ruto's twin visits to Migori within a week, stated that he had inspired the late governor to join politics.

Gakuru, who was Governor Obado's lecturer, perished in a road accident in November last year while travelling to Nairobi for a morning interview with a local TV station.

"We have a lot in common with the people of Nyeri. The governor whose life we are celebrating today was a lecturer of mine at one time and we became so close.

"I can even say that probably I am one of the people who inspired him to contest for the governorship,” stated Obado.

He appealed to the people to pray for him as he faces the court case in which he is a suspect in the murder of Sharon Otieno.

He held that his repute had been tainted by the case but his spirit "remains intact, actually it is even much stronger".

The governor spoke on his newly found friendship with DP Ruto, indicating that he had accompanied him not just to commemorate the late governor but also help the Deputy President cement the unity agenda.

"My coming here today is to show solidarity with you and help the Deputy President cement that unity which we all cherish as Kenyans," he concluded.
