Details of How Sharon Otieno's Murder Unfolded

Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Noordin Haji on Sunday night released a statement giving a snippet of what transpired before and after the murder of Sharon Belyne Otieno.

Records by the ODPP indicate that the Rongo University student was abducted and murdered in a well-choreographed plan linked to both employees of Migori County and Governor Zacharia Okoth Obado's acquaintances.

On September 3, 2018, the first report about the abduction of Sharon and Nation Media Group journalist Barrack Oduor was received at Kadel Patrol Base.

The journalist told the police that they had been abducted by four unidentified men along Homa Bay Road, shortly after a meeting with one Michael Oyamo.

Police immediately launched investigations to trace the 7-months pregnant Sharon who had been kidnapped.

On September 4, 2018, Sharon's body was discovered in a thicket near Oyugis town.

Investigations revealed that the abduction was carried out using a dark grey Toyota Fielder KCL 481K which operates as a taxi in Migori town.

On September 16, 2018, the vehicle was intercepted within Migori town and the driver Jackson Otieno Gombe arrested.

The vehicle was registered under the name of Olivia Oloo Adhiambo - an employee of Migori County.

It was also established that Olivia is married to Caspal Ojwang Obiero, a county employee who serves as the second PA to Governor Obado.

On September 3, 2018, the car's tracking system was deactivated and reactivated on September 4, 2018, in what the DPP terms as "a well-calculated move to conceal the movement of the vehicle in question".

Investigators also established that an intimate relationship existed between the Governor and the deceased student.

The statement further indicates that it was established that the Governor was unhappy about the pregnancy that resulted from their relationship.

One peculiar thing that DPP Haji notes is that every one adversely mentioned as a suspect or a person of interest is either linked to Migori County Government or Governor Obado and each was assigned a role "to handle the matter carefully to avoid public ridicule or political backlash".

The DPP concluded by giving an assurance that all the perpetrators including the hitmen will be pursued, arrested and brought to book.
