Raila in Meeting With Ex-Tottenham Star Ramon Vega

Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader Raila Odinga on Monday held a meeting with ex-Switzerland international Ramon Vega at his Capitol Hill offices.

Vega played as a Central Defender for clubs including Tottenham Hotspur, Watford, Celtic and Cagliari in his 13-year professional career.

He made a move into asset management and sports consultancy after retirement from football in 2004.

Raila disclosed that his talks with Vega were focused on exploring ways to develop football on the continent.

"Held a meeting with Ramon Vega at Capitol Hill this afternoon during which we had a discussion on how to elevate football in Africa," a statement read in part.

The former Prime Minister also gifted Vega a copy of his book following their meeting.

Vega had in 2015 announced that he was considering standing as a candidate in the FIFA Presidential election.

In 2009, he bid to purchase top English club Portsmouth from Alexandre Gaydamak but failed to prove ability to secure adequate financing for the proposal.

As a player, Vega won a number of major titles.

Among them are the Football League Cup with Tottenham, the Scottish Premier League and the Scottish Cup with Celtic.
