Teachers Arrested for Defying CS Amina Mohamed’s Directive

Two teachers were arrested in Nakuru for defying Education Cabinet Secretary Amina Mohamed’s directive.

In July, the CS had directed that no teacher or school should offer tuition to learners during holidays on grounds that it is abolished by the constitution.

The teachers were, however, caught offering tuition to over 200 students at Pioneer School in Langa Langa, Nakuru County.

The area chief George Ng’ang’a revealed that the students had been picked out from various schools around the county.

He further divulged that the teachers were charging Kshs 1,200 per subject with a total of four subjects under tutorship at the centre.

The teachers were taken to Bondeni Police Station custody and are waiting to be arraigned in court.

This comes weeks after the CS made arrests of students, invigilators and supervisors involved in national exams cheating.

On Monday, November 6, 17 people in Kisii were taken into police custody after they were caught aiding in exam malpractices on the first day of the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) exams.

She even directed that some students caught cheating to be deregistered and certificates of parents found aiding in malpractices to be recalled.

Amina stated that those deregistered could only seat for the exams after two years.
