New App That Will Track Pregnancies in Schools - CS Amina

Education Cabinet Secretary (CS) Amina Mohamed on Wednesday revealed that the government will soon launch a  pregnancy-tracking app in all schools.

Speaking in Nanyuki during KCSE exams inspection exercise, the CS indicated the digital app will be used to gather data on pregnancies among school-going girls.

The Education CS iterated that following the alarming number of teenage pregnancies, her ministry has partnered with international agencies and civil society groups to help curb the habit.

The app will be distributed in schools across the country to help gather data on the number of pregnancies reported in the past three years.

Primary and secondary school heads will be sent a matrix where they will fill in pregnancy data in their schools.

The data will be used to assess the extent of the teenage incidences and help in developing remedial measures.

CS Amina had earlier on expressed her dismay after monitoring KCPE exams across the country over the high rates of teenage pregnancy in the country.

"The KCPE incidences show the rate of teenage pregnancy in our country is very high," she stated confirming that at least 9 students delivered babies during the exam period.

"A high number of candidates became mothers during the three days of KCPE. If this is the case all-year round, then the country could be facing a real crisis," the CS concluded.

"The rate of teenage pregnancies in the country is puzzling. Preliminary reports have shown that the magnitude of the problem is much bigger than we thought. We are staring a national crisis in the face," the CS decried while releasing KCPE results on Monday.
