Senior Resident Magistrate, Caroline Kemei, has opened up for the first time since her daughter, Maribel Kapolon, was found brutally murdered in Meru County.
Kemei told the Standard that her daughter had adopted a strange way of doing things, unusual to what the family was used to.
In the last week before her abduction, the daughter had requested to be enrolled in a Tae Kwondo class for self-defence against people out to harm her.
The magistrate further revealed that on the eve of her daughter’s disappearance, she had requested to take family pictures using her mother’s phone and in her night prayer, she asked God to grant her family peace.
“The last week before she was abducted, she insisted that I should enrol her for Tae Kwondo classes...she said it was all for self-defence against bad people.
“She used to pray each night before we went to sleep but her last connection with God was not usual, she prayed that God should give her aunt (house help) rest,” revealed Kemei.
The Chief Magistrate further divulged that on the day her daughter went missing, she had insisted that her mother accompany her to the bus stop which was a rare occurrence.
Kemei disclosed that she was so devastated with the murder that she contemplated quitting her job. She however resorted to carrying on after her son, Brian, encouraged her.
Kapolon’s body was found dumped at Gitoro Forest, Meru County nearly two weeks after she was abducted with cuts across her thighs and an arm banned with acid.
Investigators found that the 9-year-old had been tortured before her murder after demanding a ransom.
