Technical University of Mombasa Students Go on Rampage

Chaos broke up on Monday morning after students of the Technical University of Mombasa went on rampage.

The students reportedly took to the streets after the university's administration barred some of their colleagues from sitting for the end of semester exams.

A copy of a memo circulating on social media indicated that students who paid their fees after November 19 would not be allowed to sit for the exams until the next semester.

"This is to remind you that any fee payment made after 19th November 2018, will not be reflected in the statement until after examinations," the statement read in part.

The memo advised those who had not cleared before the said date that they would not be allowed to sit for the semester's examinations.

The memo dated November 21 was signed by the institutions Chief Accountant Justin Ombui.

This seems to have angered the students who engaged police in running battles for the better part of the morning over a planned riot.

The confrontation reportedly paralyzed normal operations at the coastal city as the students poured into the streets in their numbers.

In the ensuing scuffle, over 20 students were arrested over the demonstration as police endeavoured in quelling the chaos.
