22 MCAs Threaten to Resign for Fresh Polls

22 legislators from Homa Bay Country on Tuesday voiced their intention to surrender their earnings and go back to the polls.

The MCAs, allied to embattled Speaker Elizabeth Ayoo, indicated they were ready to resign by next week to pave way for fresh elections.

Led by Chief Whip Richard Ogindo, the MCAs decried the constant wrangles in the County Assembly.

The MCAs indicated that they will not continue earning a salary and allowances as ward representatives for no work done for the electorate.

According to the Chief Whip, the legislators allied to the Speaker are ready to quit leaving the Assembly with 38 members in their rival camp.

Addressing the media, the Ogindo indicated that Homa Bay County residents are bitter with the MCAs over the frequent battles in the assembly that have derailed the House business.

On her part, nominated MCA Sophie Koweje pointed that there is need to dissolve the County Assembly over gross misconduct among the MCAs.

Koweje indicated that they will table their resignation letters to the office of the Speaker by the second week of December.

Adding that the MCAs are fighting over power, Koweje indicated that their resignation would let the opponent camp be.

Accusing Governor Cyprian Awiti and his deputy Hamilton Orata of failing to act as mediators between the two warring factions, Kojwach MCA Joan Ogada indicated that the dissolution of the entire county leadership would give voters a fresh opportunity to elect new leaders.
