Tactics Governor Mike Sonko Has Used to Win War Against Crime In Nairobi

Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko on Saturday declared that crime rates in the city have seen a tremendous decline since he assumed office.

He was speaking during the national police service customer service week at the Railways club on November 8, 2018.

Sonko credited his success to good working relations with the police service, adding the collaboration has aided him keep the menacing mugging cases that had crept the city earlier in 2017 away.

"So far, we have collaborated well. When we had an increase of muggings in the CBD, police worked with my administration to quickly address the menace and restore public confidence," he told the attendees.

He also assured Nairobi residents that he is collaborating with security agencies to ensure that their security needs were met.

"Security agencies are very cooperative in assisting our County enforcement officers, and for that, we are grateful," he added.

He also promised police that he would continue pledging bounties to any officer who would handle gangsters that have been terrorizing city residents by breaking into their businesses.

The county boss has on previous occasions offered cash offers to police who have been involved in nabbing and eliminating notorious gangs.

"My offer still stands as we join hands to root out crime from Nairobi especially during this festive season," Sonko promised.

He also called for the police reforms be implemented urgently to ensure that the enhance their welfare.

The ceremony was also graced by Inspector General Joseph Boinnet and Defence Cabinet Secretary (CS) Raychelle Omamo.
