A woman’s life was on Tuesday cut short after she was caught up in a stampede at Roysambu Member of Parliament Waihenya Ndirangu’s office.
Three others, who were injured in the incident, were transferred to Nema Hospital while one woman was admitted at Kenyatta National Hospital after injuring her leg severely.
Speaking to the media, Ndirangu explained that the woman succumbed minutes after she had arrived at Ridgeways Hospital.
"I send my condolences to the families that have lost their loved ones and also wish the ones in hospital quick recovery," the MP stated.
He further explained that the tragedy was brought about by rowdy youth who had arrived at the venue in the wee hours of the night.
The woman had gone to the MP’s office seeking for her child’s bursary in a routine event during which the lawmaker determines the most needy families for the bursary award.
The stampede started immediately the MP got into his office where he invited the crowd inside.
“There was a stampede at the entrance of the office, people were pushing their ways through,” stated one witness.
Several other witnesses explained how dire the situation was, claiming that they had been trampled to the ground and needed help to get up.
“It is absurd, I thank God that am even alive because I was also pushed to the ground but people helped me up,” revealed one person.
