ODM Party Leader Raila Odinga on Thursday hosted outgoing US Ambassador Robert Godec for a farewell party at his home.

In photos shared on social media, Raila was in the company of his wife Ida Odinga as they hosted Godec for the farewell breakfast.

"Godec is leaving the country at the end of the month after six years in Nairobi. He promised continued support for the Building Bridges Initiative and war on corruption," Raila stated.

Also present at the meeting was Suna East MP Junet Mohamed who lost a cousin at the Dusit D2 Hotel attack.

Later in the day, the outgoing US Ambassador paid me a courtesy to the Chief Justice David Maraga.

"I enjoyed working with him, and on my behalf, and that of the Judiciary, I wish him well in his future endeavors," Maraga stated after meeting Godec.

On Monday, Godec visited Interior CS Fred Matiangi who thanked him for his positive contribution towards expanding our democratic space during his tenure as US envoy to Kenya.

"I also thank him for the positive engagement we've had on various security matters and wish him well in his future endeavors," Matiangi stated.

In early January, the United States Senate approved the appointment of former Senator Kyle McCarter as Godec's successor.

The 56-year-old McCarter takes over after Godec held the position at US Embassy in Nairobi for six years.
