School Where All Candidates Scored Below D Plain in 2018 KCSE

Parents of students in Mathare-ini secondary school have transferred their children after the TSC transferred teachers affecting students' performance.

According to a report by Daily Nation, the school only has two teachers - the principal and deputy principal - with no current admissions in Form One.

In 2018, a total of 26 students registered for KCSE exams and got a mean grade of 1.8080 with the best four candidates scoring D, 13 scoring D- and nine students attaining E.

The principal, Patrick Mwangi, faulted the mass transfers saying that despite trying to make the school known to the public, students have not been enrolling.

Low enrollment has been a challenge to the school but we have put enough mechanisms in place to attract more learners this year,” stated the principal.

The school did not have any Form One admissions in 2019 while last year, there were no Form Two students. Therefore, parents started taking their children to other schools.

Last year, the school had 47 students who have since been transferred.

Judy Waithira, a parent at the institution, claimed the administration advised them to transfer their children after the teachers were withdrawn.

“I have secured vacancies for two of my children at the nearby Kariua Secondary School near Kandara Sub-County,” she stated.

Kigumo Deputy Director of Education David Kigaya indicated that they held meetings with chiefs, educationalists, the church and the community leaders regarding the school.

“The situation is not as bad as we anticipated, by next week the school will be full of students,” Kigaya claimed.
