Al Shabaab Militant Surrenders in Nakuru

DCI is probing a case in which a 23-year-old man claiming to be a member of Al Shabaab surrendered at the Nakuru Central Police Station.

According to Nakuru County Commandant Samuel Obara, the man turned himself in on January 20, 2019.

The 23-year-old alleged that he joined Al Shabaab in September 2018 and had been trained for five months.

He also claimed that he had escaped from a training camp in Bombolulu, Mombasa County.

He was immediately taken in for questioning by the DCI officers in Nakuru.

He told the DCI that he had surrendered in fear that his life was in danger.

The Anti-Terror police unit in Eldoret, Uasin Gishu County were called in to join the questioning.

This comes in the wake of the 14 Riverside Drive attack that left 21 dead, which Al Shabaab took responsibility for.

The intense investigations ongoing after the attack has seen a section of suspects involved in the attack surrender to the police.

On January 21, 2018, four out of the six suspects who had been listed as wanted by the DCI in relation to the Riverside Drive attack surrendered to the police in Isiolo.
