Sonko Given 7 Days to Apologise by Janet Ouko

Former CEC for Education Janet Ouko has given Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko seven days to apologize contrary to which, she would take him to court.

Ouko demanded an apology citing the alleged defamatory statement the Nairobi County boss made against her after her resignation.

“Take notice that unless we receive the written apology within the next seven days hereof, our instructions are to file a suit against you without further reference to you and at your own risk as to costs and consequences arising therefrom,” read part of the letter.

The former Education CEC wrote the letter to Sonko through her lawyer, Dan Ameyo.

According to Ouko, the allegations by Sonko that she resigned following her involvement in a county bursary kitty scandal painted her as a thief and as a person who was unfit to hold any public office.

This is according to a statement made by Sonko made on January 9, 2019, while addressing journalists in Kilifi County.

Ouko, in her letter, claims that the allegations by Sonko have caused her mental torture and anguish, thus affecting her psychological well-being.

“Your said words literally meant that our client, to whom you were referring, was involved in the loss of the said money. This has attracted social media attention with people addressing our client as a thief,” the letter continued.

Ouko also claims that the letter has completely destroyed her reputation to the extent that she is now shunned by her friends, family, and members of the public.

She now wants Sonko to take responsibility for the loss and damages that she has experienced following his allegations.

This comes following her resignation from Sonko’s cabinet, with the governor claiming that Ouko engineered a plan to steal from the county bursary fund by altering the originally approved cheques.
