George Saitoti’s Widow Faces Lawsuit for Blocking Road

Former Vice President, the late George Saitoti’s wife, Margaret Saitoti, has been sued by two lobby groups and an individual for obstructing a road linking Mzima Springs Road to Olenguruone Avenue in Lavington, Nairobi.

The widow of the former powerful minister is said to have fenced off land 3734/675 belonging to Kenya Power and 3734/676 which she owns.

According to Capital FM, the complainants say that the move has greatly inconvenienced them.

“Kenya power disposed of the land without following due process yet that is public property where bidding ought to have been done,” the complainants claimed.

The petitioners want the respondent to unblock the road pending hearing and determination of the case.

They also want an order directing the widow to present all documents that relate to the acquisition of the two plots.

Through their association, Lavington residents have written to the County Commander of Police to beef up security on Thursday as they will hold a peaceful demonstration demanding the removal of the fence. They insist that the fence was illegally constructed.

“We urge police to beef up security because the respondent might mobilize goons and hooligans to stop the demo,” one of the residents pointed out.

The family has kept to themselves since the death of the Internal Security Minister’s death in June, 2012, who died in a helicopter crash.

Prof Saitoti was a private man, who led a quiet life with his family away from the political scene. The wife is even more private and prefers to lead a similar life, taking care of family businesses and her son Zachary Musengi.
