Chief Justice David Maraga Reshuffles High Court Judges

Chief justice David Maraga on Monday announced the reshuffling of five high court judges.

Among the judges reshuffled are Chacha Mwita, Weldon Korir, Wilfrida Okwany, Aaron Makau and Reuben Nyakundi.

Justice Chacha Mwita has been moved to Kajiado High Court from Milimani law courts in Nairobi. Chacha was in the Constitutional and Human Rights Division and will be starting a new role as the presiding judge.

Justice Weldon Kori has been moved from Malindi High Court to the Constitutional and Human Rights Division.

Justice Wilfrida Okwany who was serving at Eldoret High Court as the Constitutional and Human Rights Division is now set to join the Commercial and Tax Division.

"Following an assessment of the needs and the resources of the judiciary, it has become necessary to make a few transfers at this time.  You are hereby transferred to the commercial and tax division of the High Court,” a letter addressed to Justice Okwany read.

James Aaron Makau was serving in the Commercial and Tax Division. He has been moved to the Constitutional and Human Rights Division.

Reuben Nyakundi from the Kajiado High Court where he was the presiding judge to Malindi High Court where he will hold the same position.

According to the Chief Justice, these transfers are expected to take effect from March 1.

Renowned judge Justice George Odunga, who was presiding over the Judicial Review Division in Nairobi, was sent to Machakos in a similar reshuffle in 2018.
