Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i on Tuesday gave an ultimate order to all Cabinet Secretaries as he chaired the first cabinet committee meeting.
The CSs were directed to compile lists of all the projects to be completed in three months and those to be probed.
He also issued a 90-day ultimatum to government contractors to complete stalled projects.
The contractors were also directed to name the government officials they bribed if that is the reason for questionable contract sum variations.
The meeting focused on a massive sweep on contractors who have stalled projects and projects where applications for contracts variations are the reason for stalling.
During the conclave, it emerged that most multi-billion shilling projects have stalled because contractors were fleeced by unscrupulous government officials
“The committee identified the challenges constraining effective execution and delivery and will provide a weekly report to the President with recommendations on how to address them,” read an official statement.
The inaugural Cabinet committee sought to streamline multi-billion shilling projects in various ministries in line with President Uhuru Kenyatta’s Big Four agenda.
“Everybody was given an opportunity to outline all projects and programmes, their present status, timelines for completion and those stalled,” a source told The Standard.
Resolutions of the meeting will be communicated to the counties, where officials will be asked to explain the status of the projects.
It was the first full meeting of the National Development Implementation and Communication Cabinet Committee since President Uhuru Kenyatta issued the executive order.
