Gang Attempts to Rob Police Officer Gun in Shauri Moyo

One person was shot and 2 others arrested on Tuesday night after a gang made a daring attempt to rob a police officer in Shauri Moyo, Kamukunji Constituency.

In a statement seen by Kenyans.co.ke, the six man gang at Barma area descended on a female police officer at around 8:30pm in a mission to steal her gun.

"The two officers were on patrol when they sighted a group of about six suspicious young men whom they approached," the statement begins.

Upon sighting the officers, three of them retreated to the back of a stationary lorry as a decoy which prompted the male officer to pursue them leaving the female officer with the other members of the group.

One of the attackers grabbed the female officer's firearm, an AK 47 and wrestled her down with a view to rob her of the firearm.

"She fired three bullets injuring one of them, identified as David Mutunga (22), on the right side of the chest with the bullet exiting at the upper right arm," the statement added.

However, her male colleague came to rescue and managed to arrest two attackers identified as Obed Mwai Wanjiru (17) and David Ochieng Onyango (24).

Mutunga was booked at Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) in a critical condition where he is reportedly undergoing treatment.

In the ensuing fracas, the female officer also sustained injuries on her neck, chest and bruises on her arms.

"She was rushed to nearby clinic where she is undergoing treatment and is in stable condition," the statement concluded.

Police officers in the area launched a manhunt in pursuit of the other three gang members who escaped during the melee.
