Kenya emerged top in an international architecture awards event held in Germany.

The Britam Tower in Upper Hill, Nairobi was named the best building in Africa in the 2018 Emporis Skyscraper Awards.

The skyscraper also featured in the world's top 10 buildings, becoming the first in Africa, in the history of the awards.

The 31-storey skyscraper offers panoramic and breathtaking views of the capital and surrounding areas, like the Nairobi National Park.

On clear days, both Mount Kenya and Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania can be seen from the top of the building.

The Emporis Skyscraper Awards is the only prize for high-rise buildings awarded annually and on a global basis.

Nominees and winners are chosen by Emporis editors, who are architecture experts from all over the world.

Since 2000, the award has been given to recognize excellence in both aesthetic and functional design.

Some of Nairobi's other high-rise buildings include Times Tower, UAP Old Mutual Tower and KICC.

The Global Trade Center under construction in Westlands will also be a key feature in the city's skyline once completed in 2020.
