Fire Razes Down Eldoret Airstrips' Property

A huge inferno razed down a huge section of the Eldoret Airstrip's property on Wednesday.

The first reports of the fire emerged at mid-day but the fire reportedly lasted several hours.

Photos seen by Kenyans.co.ke showed emergency response teams including firefighters at the scene in a bid to contain the inferno.

Sources indicate that an estimated 10 acres of the Eldoret Airstrip's land had been engulfed by the fire.

Huge smoke was also seen billowing from the scene and planes enroute for the facility were diverted to the Eldoret International Airport.

Elsewhere in Kisumu, bad weather on Tuesday evening forced airport officials to reschedule at least two flights headed for the Kisumu International Airport.

According to Charles Chetalam, an official at the airport, unfavorable weather in Kisumu affected the two flights by Fly 540 and Jambo Jet.

"The flights had to be redirected back to Nairobi. They later returned and landed safely at the Kisumu International Airport when the weather was favourable," Chetalam was quoted by Nation.

"We were to land in Kisumu by 8pm on Tuesday but could not due to bad weather. We went back to Nairobi and later returned to Kisumu landing at 10:15pm," a passenger recounted.
