I Learnt of My Sacking on TV - Former CS Rashid Echesa

Former Sports Cabinet Secretary Rashid Echesa has finally revealed how he learnt about his sacking.

The embattled outgoing CS revealed that he learnt that President Uhuru Kenyatta had pulled a plug on his role in the cabinet through television.

While speaking at a funeral in Matungu Constituency, Kakamega County, Echesa further divulged that he did not know why he was fired.

“I learnt of my sacking through TV, just like most of you. I am also waiting to be given reasons explaining my sacking,” he told the crowd.

He, however, defended the president's move revealing that Uhuru was well within his constitutional powers to do what he did and that he had valid reasons as well.

“President Uhuru Kenyatta is within his Constitutional right to re-organise his cabinet as he so wishes. He has the powers to fire, hire and appoint.

“The president appointed me. He had his own reasons for that. Today, he sacked me. He also has reasons why he did that. Being fired from Cabinet isn’t the end of my life," he continued.

Echesa was, on Friday, fired as part of a cabinet reshuffle by Uhuru.

In the Cabinet reshuffle, Uhuru appointed CS Amina Mohammed to replace him and appointed Professor George Magoha to take over the Education Ministry.
