Mike Sonko Flies and Interacts With Passengers in Economy Class

Albeit Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko has time and again shown that he has the interests of the common people at heart, he lives quite a highly flamboyant life.

It is for that reason that the passengers and crew of the Jambojet plane he boarded on Monday, March 4, were surprised when he joined them as a passenger in the economy class.

The passengers stole glances at the governor, who seemed nothing short of cosy as he interacted with them.

Governor Sonko ensured to take a selfie with the pilots as soon as they landed in Mombasa and posted it on his Facebook account.

The travellers could, however, not understand why the governor decided to put aside his glamorous lifestyle as he dozed off in the economy class seat after walking around the plane.

Sonko was travelling to Mombasa to bury his grandmother, Fatuma Swaleh Ali, who was buried on Monday at Kikowani Muslim Cemetery in the coastal city.

He is on record stating that the deceased was his role model and that he could not be where he is, were it not for her input in his life.

Sonko’s statement read, “Fatuma has been a role model and inspiration to many including me. If it was not for her, I couldn't be where I am today.”

Still, the governor undeniably went against the expectations of many if not all who know him.

It is well understood that Kenyan politicians of his calibre prefer the luxurious first class or maybe the business class. Others would prefer to burn hundreds of litres of fuel in their guzzler vehicles to travel such distances in an entourage.
