Public Service CS Margaret Kobia Feted in USA

Public Service Cabinet Secretary Margaret Kobia was on March 8 honoured by a University in Illinois State, United States.

The CS was feted by the Illinois College of Education, where she is an alumnus, for her roles in public service leadership and in institutional and academic research in Kenya.

Taking to social media, Kobia expressed her excitement for the fete revealing that it was a great honour.

"I feel greatly honoured to have received the 2019 Distinguished Alumni Award from Illinois College of Education, my Alma Mater, in Chicago yesterday.

"The award was in recognition of my roles in public service leadership and in institutional and academic research in Kenya," stated the CS.

According to information available on the university's website, the CS graduated with a PhD in Education Policy, Organization and Leadership from the institution in 2003.

Before becoming a Cabinet Secretary in the Ministry of Public Service, Youth and Gender Affairs, Kobia served as the Chairperson of the Public Service Commission.

She has also worked as the founding Director General of the Kenya School of Government and the Vice Chair of the Judicial Service Commission (JSC).

She currently serves as an advisor to the United Nations Committee of Experts in Public Administration alongside her role in government.

According to the institution's assistant dean for advancement Lisa Denson-Rives, the annual event, which honours alumni who are leading the way in the education field, is always the highlight of the year.

“This event is always the highlight of our year in the College of Education. These alums are at the top of the educational field. Having them return to campus and share their experience with our students is an honor and pleasure every year," stated Denson-Rives.
