President Uhuru Kenyatta on Wednesday appointed the immediate former Inspector General of Police Joseph Kipchirchir Boinnet as the Chief Administrative Secretary (CAS) in the Ministry of Tourism and Wildlife.
The Head of State made the directive in an Executive Order dated March 13, 2019.
This follows the end of Boinnet's four-year non-renewable tenure as the IG on Monday (March 10).
President Uhuru also nominated Hillary Mutyambai as the new Inspector General of Police replacing Boinnet.
Mutyambai, who is set to be vetted by Parliament, is currently the Assistant Director at the Counter Terrorism Center at the National Intelligence Service (NIS).
The Head of State also made several other appointments including that of Wycliffe Ogalo to the post of Commissioner-General, Kenya Prisons Service.
Uhuru also appointed Brigadier Vincent Naisho Loonena (Director-Genral, Kenya Coast Guard Service) and Brigadier John Migui Waweru (Director-General, Kenya Wildlife Service).
The president also appointed Eliud Ndung’u Kinuthia as the new Chairperson of the National Police Service Commission (NPSC).
Prior to Mutyambai's appointment as the new Inspector General, there was debate on potential successors to Boinnet.
Among the top cops considered potential replacements was GSU Commandant Douglas Kanja, who led the Dusit operation.
Others included DCI boss George Kinoti, Police spokesman Owino Wahong’o, and Government spokesman Eric Kiraithe.
