Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko, on Wednesday, released trucks full of relief food to the drought-stricken county of Turkana.
Taking to social media, the governor revealed that he was performing the act to save lives in his capacity as the Good Deeds Ambassador following his appointment towards the end of last year.
In the video, workers from the governor's rescue team could be seen loading bags of rice weighing more than 3,000kgs with 860 three-litre jerricans of oil destined for Turkana County.
"As a Good Deeds Ambassador, my team is repackaging food and other stuffs which will be distributed to Turkana County to save Kenyans who are suffering from hunger.
"I call upon other leaders to also do something and help alleviate hunger. The State has offered Ksh2bn ton the drought-affected counties," posted Sonko.
According to photos from the scene, several bags of what appeared to be flour were also waiting to be packed for transportation.
This comes at a time when drought has really hit the nation reportedly raising the death toll as a result of hunger to 21 people.
Reports indicated that at least 12 counties including Turkana and Baringo were facing severe drought and that the situation would worsen in the coming weeks.
Devolution Cabinet Secretary Eugene Wamalwa, however, claimed that he visited Turkana County and that the government was yet to confirm deaths related to hunger.
More than one million Kenyans are facing starvation in the country.
