Dennis Itumbi Apologises for Deceptive Rachael Ruto Photos

Digital, Innovations & Diaspora Communication Secretary Dennis Itumbi has apologised for posting misleading photos of Rachael Ruto

"I apologize for images I shared here earlier. Mama Rachel Ruto was not in Turkana. I relied on unverified images. This was my mistake and I am sorry. I have since deleted them. May the record reflect the true position and my apology too Jioni poa (Have a good evening)," Itumbi tweeted.

Itumbi had on Wednesday posted images of the DP's wife and his caption read that she was delivering relief food to drought-stricken Turkana County.

Keen-eyed Kenyans later started questioning why Ms Ruto was donating detergent to people facing drought.

Eventually, it was established that the photos were taken in April 2014 when she was receiving donated items from the Directorate of Special Programs for families facing starvation in Turkana.

It was also confirmed by DP’s spokesman David Mugonyi, during an interview with P Live.

"Mugonyi also added that Mrs Ruto had not visited Turkana on Wednesday for food donations," reported P Live.

The photos had drawn backlash from Kenyans who were upset by Itumbi's blunder.

Netizens accused him of taking advantage of an already bad situation to make a name for Ms Ruto.

The misleading images rubbed Kenyans the wrong way particularly because just the previous day, they had shared emotional messages and photos about the drought facing their fellow countrymen.
