Governor Sonko Offers Reward in Land Ministry Corruption Probe

Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko has offered Kshs 200,000 reward to any member of the public who will assist with information leading to the dismantling and arrest of the cartels at the land rates department.

According to a statement on his social media, Sonko disclosed that there was a conspiracy by certain staff to deny the county revenue by tampering with land rates records at a fee.

Furthermore, he stated that the cash office was also culpable where one bank slip receipt was used to issue multiple licenses to the public.

At the same time, the governor announced that four county officers were, on Thursday, apprehended by EACC detectives receiving bribes from Nairobians.

He noted that while every suspect is presumed innocent until proven guilty by a court of law, it was his duty as governor to notify the public on the action taken against such officers.

The five, Paul Odera Jabuya, Jane Wamarwa Wachina, Cecilia S. Mwashigadi, Stephen Anjawa Onyango and Onesmus Cheruiyot Kirui were arrested in Mwolem.

The governor also called on city residents to report all cases related to corruption by texting to 0722886600, 0738886600 or 0739555555 or calling the numbers 0730997000 or 0709781000.

"You can also send recorded clips of any county officer asking for bribes to the same numbers," he added.

Separately, the County Government of Nairobi, on Friday, issued an alert warning of cholera outbreak in the city.

Through a letter dated March 21, Nairobi County Director of Health Lucina Koyio addressed all county medical superintendents that the outbreak was spreading fast in all sub-counties in the city.
