Vihiga County residents are still reeling from shock after a man was arrested on Thursday for reportedly murdering his own employee over a Ksh60 debt.
The diseased, Jackton Masaba, had finished splitting firewood for the suspect, Justo Njomu, and was expecting the pay when his life abruptly came to a stop.
According to the area's Chief Wilson Matika, the suspect committed the offence so that he could avoid settling the debt.
Njomu reportedly declined to make the payment and killed Masaba on Wednesday night before he was taken into custody the following day.
According to witnesses, the dead body of Masaba, 39, was found dumped near his own home with cut wounds.
A bloody metal blade of a hoe was recovered at the house of the accused after preliminary investigations were carried out.
This comes just days after the body of a man who was reported missing was found in his landlady's house.
Upon making the discovery, the irate locals descended on the landlady and her husband at Mpeli Village in Chwele Market, Kabuchai Constituency in Bungoma Central.
Reports by Citizen Digital indicated at the time that Loise Kasambeli (31) and her spouse allegedly murdered the man upon failing to pay rent of Ksh 500.
The tenant, who engaged in menial jobs to make ends meet, engaged in a heated debate with Kasambeli before his disappearance.
