How Moi Forced Son Into KDF to Tame Him

The death of former President Daniel Moi's son, Jonathan Moi has raised curiosity about the little known lives of the rest of Moi's children.

Philip Kipchirchir is a retired Major of the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) and is known as the family wildcard.

It was reported by Nation that his father enrolled him into KDF straight after high school.

The reason was that the former president was trying to knock some discipline into the young man and the army was the way to do it.

Philip's life made headlines in the past when he divorced his Italian born wife Rosanna Pluda.

Doris Elizabeth Chepkorir Choge is Philip's twin sister. She has until fairly recently lived a simple and non-controversial life. Moi initially disapproved when she wed Ibrahim Choge, Jonathan's rally navigator and son of veteran Nandi politician the late Simon Kiptum Choge

The former Head of State's eldest child Jennifer Chemutai Kositany was born in 1953. She has led a largely private life and little is known of her business activities.

John Mark is the least known of his siblings. He was considered one of the brightest and most promising in the Moi family after securing admission into Havard University.

Raymond Kipruto, born in 1960, is publicly best remembered for his stint as Vice Chairman of the Kenya Co-operative Creameries. He is the current MP for Rongai Constituency in Nakuru.

Baringo Senator Gideon Moi is most powerful of his siblings and the apple of his father's eyes. He seeks to beat Deputy President William Ruto to clinch the presidency.

Retired president’s adopted daughter June Moi is the youngest of the brood.  Unlike her sisters, June is involved heavily in business activities in her own right, concentrating on land and property agency and development.
