Sonko Slams Daily Nation on NTV Live Over Unfactual Story

Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko, on Tuesday night, went all out against Daily Nation over that day's cover story which he claimed was not factual.

While appearing on NTV's Side Bar show, Sonko claimed that the article, which was titled "Graft: Sonko and Waititu Under Probe" was not factual and it did not capture his side of the story.

The paper had detailed that the governor was under an investigation by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) for dishing out funds whereas there was a gap in the county's audit results.

"Mr Sonko, who according to investigators is not known for any major investments, has been asked to explain the source of the monies he splashes around as well as his property including his Mua Hills residence in Machakos County. In the 2017/2018 financial reports, the auditor general unearthed several anomalies in the books of Nairobi County," reported the paper.

Sonko further threatened the media house that he would seek legal action if they did not share their Tuesday newspaper profits accusing them of using his name to make money.

"If you don't pay me, I will take you to court... If you don't pay me profits you made today, you will pay me billions," he told the show's host Ken Mijungu.

He further claimed that the report by the newspaper was one-sided and that the reporter did not seek his side of the story.

The seemingly agitated Governor further threatened to expose the author of the story claiming that the report was financed and that he had evidence the reporter has, in the past, been spotted taking bribes.

That was, however, not the first time the governor blasted a Kenyan media outlet over its reporting.

In the begining of April, Sonko took an issue with The Star Newspaper after they carried a story that claimed Senator Mithika Linturi could not 'rise to the action in the bedroom'.

"This is nonsense of the highest order and totally unacceptable. The Star is becoming a gutter press day by day. We shall not allow them to publish bedroom stories of other men with their wives," he posted on social media at the time.
