Ex-Minister's Daughter in Land Dispute With Mother

Former Minister Mbiyu Koinange's property row has escalated after his wife and daughter locked horns over 88 acres parcel of land in Nairobi.

According to a report by Business Daily newspaper, Koinange’s fourth wife, Eddah Wanjiru Mbiyu, is now demanding that the land, which is adjacent to Two Rivers Mall, be returned before a ruling by the Supreme Court on how the minister's Ksh10 Billion estate gets implemented.

In October 2018, the Supreme Court ruled that all the four wives of the former minister should get a share of the property, a decision that was expected to put the 38-year row to rest.

The distribution was, however, not to be as Wanjiru, who was backed by a majority of the family's members, demanded that Lennah Wanjiku, Koinange’s last-born daughter, should return the parcels.

According to court documents, Wanjiru argued that the land was hived off from a parcel that was sold to Two Rivers without the knowledge of the family.

“Pending hearing and determination of this application distribution be stayed,” she told the court.

In her defence, Wanjiku explained that the family had full knowledge of her occupation of the land claiming that she had made Ksh450 million investments into the property.

She further wanted the court to let her keep the property and that she was willing to give up her other assets instead.

The assets in questions include a Ksh2 Billion undeveloped land in Nairobi CBD and shares in numerous firms including Magadi Soda and Limuru among others.

The family reportedly owns a number of multi-billion shillings buildings in Kiambu, Nakuru and Mombasa.
