Deputy President William Ruto has revealed what will make him retire from active politics in 2022.
He was speaking during a Thursday morning interview with Kameme FM, that was also broadcasted on TV, when he told listeners the circumstance that would make him take a back seat.
He stated that the courts are the only ones with the power to stop him from vying for the presidency in 2022.
Ruto explained that he was ready to retire if the court rules in favour of former Jubilee Vice Chair David Murathe, who sought interpretation on whether the DP is part of the Presidency and should, therefore, retire with President Uhuru Kenyatta.
The DP told the viewers and listeners that he was not hell-bent on becoming president.
Ruto noted that even if he lost the Jubilee party ticket to contest the country's top seat, he would support the winner.
In the event that he wins the Jubilee nominations but loses in the General Election, Ruto stated that he would humbly form the opposition without causing trouble as has been a habit of Kenya's election losers.
Speaking about the Jubilee MPs who have christened themselves as team kieleweke, the DP stated that the legislators would eventually join ODM.
He dismissed their claims that Ruto was disrespecting President Kenyatta, adding that they didn't understand his history with Uhuru.
"Jubilee is a party we have built from the ground and Uhuru and I have a history. I didn't support him because he was winning, even in 2002 when he lost, I was with him. In 2013, I supported him when he had a case at the Hague.
"Many people were saying we were going to jail, we went to a certain leader asking for support and he told us we were going to jail for 10 years. Nobody wanted to support us, so these people going around trying to teach me how to support Uhuru, are people I don't want to call stupid but what are they really trying to say?" Ruto challenged.
"I have proven for the last 20 years that I am supporting Uhuru Kenyatta. These kieleweke people, where were they when we were struggling? We were in Kanu because we wanted a national party, the others were in small outfits. All these kieleweke people will end up in ODM," he added.
